Project level budget control ignoring cost centres.

I need to set up project budget control in F&O such that submitted PRs will be rejected if their value takes the project over budget, ignoring the cost centres. Currently I've only been able to get budgets working at a cost centre level of granularity rather than for the whole project as the stakeholders require.

Any help on this would be much appreciated as I'm completely stumped. I've tried using both project management and accounting, and the budget control workspace with custom budget control rules but I've had no success.

As per my knowledge, Standard Budget Control in F&O is ledger-dimension based (e.g., cost center), not project-based
So you cannot enforce strict project-level budget control (ignoring cost center) out of the box

There are two alternatives types of budgets for the project:

HI, If you setup projects as a dimension.
And select the project dimension instead of cost centre on control parameters, it is possible.
But be careful on how you setup the account structure of the project accounts.

Thanks @Giorgio Bonacorsi for your reply. We need the budget controls to block so the first solution does not work. The second solution I think is not suitable either unfortunately. At the stage of creating the budget register entries I am forced to enter all financial dimensions as required by the account structure as opposed to just supplying the project code. @BillurSamdancioglu I am assuming htis is what you were referring to when you said be careful how I set up the account structure.

Unfortunately I cannot change the account structure so I need a way to overcome this. I'm guessing though this would require having a developer modify the X++.

Another possible avenue is using Dynamics 365 Project Operations. Could this offer that functionality?
