It is possible and you could refer to the following steps.

1.Create a custom workflow with C# to connect to another instance and update/create records in it.

2.Create a new workflow to trigger the custom workflow in main instance.

3.Create a new custom ribbon in main instance and add js code to trigger the new workflow with Ribbonworkbench.
