Trying to get a test environment setup and when installing the AOS on the connect to SQL Server Database screen I can see the database server but when clicking the drop down for database name I am getting a "Setup could not connect to the database server <db server name>". My account is set up as the owner of the database in the sql server, remote connections are allowed, and I added the firewall inbound rule for the specific port. The only thing I am unsure of is compatibility between base 2009 and sql 2012. The requirements say 2009 SP1 supports sql 2012.. so how do I do a fresh install of ax 2009 with 2012 sql or what other things should I look at that are causing this problem?
SP1 is not enough. You also need the hotfix KB 2836535 (source).
Correct, but the issue is still I need to install AX 2009 first, then apply the updates. There doesn't seem to be a slipstream process that is in the documentation like 2012.
Sorry, I don't remember details of AX 2009 anymore. I believe you should extract files from the hotfix and overwrite original files in the installer, but I might be wrong.
I'll give it a shot. I'm getting sql management studio set up in the aos environment just to rule out any other firewall issues and to verify I can in other ways connect to the database from that vm.
