I have a few questions and was hoping some of you experts might have experience with this and wouldn't mind sharing it with me.
We have 2 kinds of warehouses within our company, the main one which houses our bulk stock and another is our so called sample warehouse for our (you've guessed it) samples.
Our sample warehouse does not use any sort of scanners and we're now playing with the idea of having a terminal of sorts in the form of a handscanner in the sample warehouse which should make directly booking the sample stock possible.
My question is if AX 4.0 can support this function; is it possible to hook up/program a handscanner and directly book things in AX? Are there any specific things we should keep in mind with a project like this? For instance does the handscanner require a user licence when working with it as a terminal?
Thanks in advance.
Try ax anywhere by to increase i think they has a solution for 2009 but you can check if they have for 4.0
I have worked with an external application that counted the stock and the output was a counting journal that was imported into AX. That is another alternative.
What are all the operations you are planning to perform by using the hand scanner...? If it is just a bar code scanner, then there is no need for any additional license. Just connect the scanner and scan the bar code, it is just like any other input device. If you are planning to perform picking and receiving, then you can try with rfsmart.com/microsoft-dynamics-ax
We want the hand scanner to be more than just a bar code scanner. We've even been thinking about using a tablet with a scanner attached. Whatever we choose to use though; in the end it should be possible to go through the entire picking process with the hand scanner/tablet.
For instance I've seen solutions where a tablet is used to select an order. Warehouse personnel can then proceed with picking the order. The picked items are checked against the items in the order and at the end the picking list is posted with the tablet. This is the same way we want to work.
I understand there are companies that have developed certain solutions for this (and I'll have a look at the links you two provided) but if I understand correctly there is no standard function in AX that will allow for this?
AX 4.0 doesn't offer anything tablet-specific out of the box. Nevertheless you can run AX client on Windows tables, Enterprise Portal on any tablet or write a native application for the OS used by the tablet and let the application communicate with AX.
