What impact will blank values in custom Communication Preferences have on email campaigns? We have two custom Communication Preference fields, Alumni Email and Marketing Email. Over 131,000 contact records have custom Communication Preferences which are blank. Over 1,500 records have "Do Not Allow" values. Will the blank values be interpreted as "Allow" or "Do Not Allow" by the email campaigns we need to send out?

I don't know what the impact will be to CRM, but you want to update them to have the correct values. Any two-option fields in CRM have to have values set, so I assume that you're dealing with records that were imported directly to SQL instead of through supported means. If that's the case, I'd have your developer/migrator update those fields in SQL so they have the default value you want. The alternative is to do bulk export of the records, update the preferences, then reimport. This will take a while with the number of records you have, but if that's your only option I would suggest doing it once now and getting your data fixed before it causes other problems down the line.
