On the social pane on the contact form, the add a phone call portion does not have the fields that are on the phone call quick form or the phone call main form. Here is what I see on the quick form:
And here is what I see on the contact add a phone call social pane:
The subject line is defaulting to the first line of the description. Any ideas on how to update this? It seems un-editable.
You are right.
Those forms are different, in the social pane quick create is only Description, call with, direction, and left voice mail.
There is no way to edit or customize this social pane and btw, the Quick view form is not a form for creation, it is purposely to see related entity fields and info quickly at a glance,
it is different from quick create form, you can create a quick create form, but there is no way you can modify the social pane, you cannot modify the appearance, the list, and also the quick create there.

There's isn't a known supported way you can customize the social pane. This has resulted in a bad user experience with some of our clients. So, a lot depends on how the users are trained - If the users have already made phone call, and they would like to log it, I would recommend using the Social Pane. Otherwise, I would configure the command bar to display a Phone Call button there. On click of the phone call button, the main form of the phone call entity will be displayed.
