ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV / Business Central Developer Digest - Vol 31

New features for code performance, troubleshooting Business Central in Docker, and more are in this edition of Developer Digest.

The Dynamics NAV and Business Central community, including the ArcherPoint technical staff, is made up of developers, project managers, and consultants who are constantly communicating, with the common goal of  sharing helpful information with one another to help customers be more successful.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them on blogs, forums, social media...so everyone can benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this community—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share this great information with everyone who might not have the time to check out the multitude of resources out there? So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from NAV/BC experts and devotees around the world. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

New Features for Performant Code in Dynamics 365 Business Central

Stefano Demiliani recently shared three features that could significantly impact your code performance, particularly in a SaaS deployment:

  • Partial Record Loading
  • Temporary Tables
  • QueryCategory

Learn all about these features in New Features for Performant Code.

Troubleshooting Business Central on Docker

Freddy Kristiansen shared a comprehensive post, a “brain dump” of everything he could think of to share about how he would approach troubleshooting an issue in BC on Docker. It’s broken down into 6 sections:

  1. Docker’s worst enemy
  2. Installing Docker
  3. Installing BcContainerHelper
  4. Creating a Business Central container
  5. Keep the script, not the container
  6. Frequently seen errors

The Dynamics 365 Ecosystem — In Visual Form

Being a visual learner, I found this very cool. Aleksandar Totovic put together some comprehensive visuals of the Microsoft Dynamics ecosystem. You can see for yourself in Dynamics 365 Ecosystem Map April 2020.

Multi-tenant Sandbox Containers

Freddy Kristiansen enlightens us again, informing us that, with the change to BcContainerHelper, sandbox containers become multitenant by default.

Designing Infinite Loops – Oops!

Kyle H inquires: “If you accidentally write an infinite loop of trigger logic, it takes a really long time to exceed 2^64 iterations. Asking for a friend.”

Bill W warns: “4x slower on the SaaS platform, so take that into account when you design your infinite loops.”
